Date: Thursday, September 08, 2005
ANNAPOLIS, Md.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 8, 2005--CompuDyne Corporation (Nasdaq:CDCY), an industry leader in sophisticated security products, integration and technology for the public security markets, announced today that the Los Angeles Unified School District has signed a $1.8M contract with CompuDyne-Public Safety & Justice, Inc. (formerly Tiburon, Inc.) to provide a public safety system for the Los Angeles School Police Department. CompuDyne-Public Safety & Justice, Inc. (CPS&J) is an industry-leading provider of automated public safety and justice systems which meet the demanding and complex needs of law enforcement, fire & rescue, corrections and justice environments. This comprehensive system includes new Computer Aided Dispatch, Records Management, and Field Reporting systems to support the police department that serves over 1,000,000 students and support personnel of the Los Angeles Unified School District.
The Los Angeles School Police Department required a new, reliable system that provided open technology, enhanced functionality and automated report writing for officers. "This new system will better assist the 350 officers of the L.A. School Police Department in addressing the safety needs of students, staff and property of the Los Angeles Unified School District," says Officer James Isakson.
The new Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) system operates on fully distributed Microsoft Windows(R) workstations, providing server-independent processing of all critical CAD functions and a reliable configuration approaching 100% system availability. If any component fails, the system continues to function. CPS&J has successfully deployed this unique system architecture in several city, county, and state-wide public safety communication centers across the country.
The Records Management System will consolidate and automate records processing and criminal investigations for the District's police department. In addition, a comprehensive mobile communications component that includes automated field report writing will be installed in 150 police vehicles. Officers will enter and access their accident and case reports while in the field, increasing the speed and accuracy of incident reporting and allowing officers to spend more time in the school community.
The funds for the new CAD system were approved by the voters through Measure R during a recent election.
